League Structure Changes Announced for 2022
The IOMCA have recently reviewed the recommendations put forward by the League Review Committee (we would like to thank those involved for their efforts) and put together a structure for league cricket for 2022 onwards.
There are some key areas to focus on for clubs before committing teams for 2022 like the introduction of the 7-4-2 regulations for junior players and the changes to midweek cricket.
These changes will allow cricket to be played across all formats in a more balanced and competitive environment and allow increased access to cricket for new players along with freeing up facilities for training and women and girl's cricket.

Primary School Cricket Festivals 2021
After the disappointment of last years primary school soft ball cricket festivals being cancelled. This year saw the introduction of regionalised festivals in the north, south, east and west of the island. It has been an excellent week of cricket where the weather has stayed fine with 16 schools entering and 23 teams, 200 children playing over the week. The festivals are 'fun' festivals with everyone receiving a certificate at the end. This allowed a big range of schools to enter from the larger schools to the smaller and there were many children at the festival playing their first games of cricket. A number of schools brought more than one team and it was truly a mixed festival with a significant number of girls playing alongside boys or in all girls teams.
A big thanks to the 17 schools for entering, bringing the children and running the teams at each of the festivals. To Bunscoill Rhumsaa, Peel and St John's CC, Cronkbourne CC and King William's College for hosting and all the people who umpired over the week.

HSBC Manx Youth Games 2021
The HSBC Manx Youth Games took place on Saturday 15th May 2021. The day began with an opening ceremony at the National Sports Centre with all the participants from 15 sports marching onto the track in their brightly coloured t-shirts representing the team they are competing for: Red – North, Orange – South, Blue – West, Green - Douglas South, Yellow - Douglas North. The highlight of the opening ceremony is the group warm up which takes place to music in front of the packed grandstand.
Cricket participants then move to Cronkbourne Cricket Club for a series of matches. There were 12 teams, 96 children playing cricket during the festival. It was a really fun day where the weather certainly didn't dampen the players enthusiasm and energy. After a disrupted winter of training where only 6 out of the 12 training sessions were completed there were some excellent batting, bowling and fielding skills on display. The festival is completed with a presentation of medals and water bottles from Matthew Ansell National Team captain and Nagachandra Ps from HSBC to all of the participants. A huge thanks to the coaches and volunteers who helped prepare the players and ran the teams over the day and to Cronkbourne Cricket Club for their excellent hospitality.

Cricket Gear Appeal for Cricket Kindness
Ben Leinwand a Castletown, Isle of Man U13 and EPP player has devised a great initiative for the unwanted cricket whites as a result of the move to coloured clothing and white ball cricket on the Isle of Man this season -
With the change to white ball cricket this season we no longer need our whites. My idea is to send these, and any other cricket kit we can collect, to people who would appreciate and use them. The Cricket Appeal charity www.cricketcharity.org, based in the UK, have agreed to take our donations and to distribute them to under-resourced government primary and secondary schools and cricket clubs in the Caribbean.
The charity will accept all cricket kit donations including pants/shirts/sweaters, bats, bags, shoes, balls, hats, helmets and stumps. If you are able to help, please bring donations to CCC matches this weekend or to next week’s mid-week matches at KWC up until Saturday May 15th. Separately you can reach out to me at leinwand@manx.net to arrange collection. All items will be boxed and shipped to the UK. Once in the UK the charity is will distribute the kit to schools in Barbados, Trinidad and Guyana.
If you are able, please include £1-£5 (anything helps) to help cover the cost of getting the kit from the Isle of Man to the UK. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Cricket Kindness go fund me page.
Thanks for your help!

New Women's Soft Ball Cricket League 2021
Four teams have entered the inaugural women's soft ball cricket league - two teams from Castletown A and one each from Cronkbourne and Ramsey. The new soft ball cricket league fixtures have been published on www.iomcacomps.play-cricket.com. over six Sundays through the summer and the home ground will host all the fixtures with each team playing two fixtures. The games will be umpired by the clubs, scored and points recorded on Play Cricket.
Cricket Returns
Great news! All cricket activity will recommence from Monday 19th April including Manx Youth Games, club training and matchplay, IOMCA squads, women and girl's soft ball, schools coaching and coach education. A busy summer of cricket is planned for 2021 with coloured clothing and white ball cricket, a new junior community initiative and opportunities for women and girls to be involved in recreational and competitive soft and hard ball formats.
Regionalised CricSoft Festivals
New for 2021 will be regionalised under 9 soft ball cricket festivals for clubs on a Friday evening with all clubs coming together for a central festival every fourth week. Those individuals from the Manx Youth Games will also be encouraged to attend the regionalised festivals either as a club member or on a turn up and play basis. The reduction in travel will hopefully see numbers increase for the festivals and clubs grow a healthy number of softball players to become players for the future. There will be 18 regionalised festivals and 3 central festivals.
The regional split will be:
North & West - Ramsey, Peel & St Johns, Crosby
South & East - Castletown, Cronkbourne, Finch Hill
Central - Finch Hill & Cronkbourne
The dates of the festivals are included on the CricSoft page www.iomcricket.co.uk/cricsoft.html.

COVID Update 09/04/21
Great to see the sun and the easing of restrictions, if things continue as they are we can plan for a full season of cricket.
With that in mind the easing of restrictions is allowing the phased return of sports as you will be aware from the recent briefings.
At present the IOMCA are looking to next Friday before making any decisions on returning to any club or squad activities.
Any normal year we would be looking at finishing indoor training around now so whilst the lockdown has made people hungry to get outside and return to training which is great we have made the decision to wait a week before resumptions are considered.
At present any club looking to return would need to provide risk assessments for approval, these will not be considered at present.
We encourage you to use the next week to get on top of any pre season planning which may need doing, for those clubs who have the opportunity to work on surrounding areas please do so ensuring the safety protocols and number of people are followed and lets look forward to our season hopefully starting on the May 2nd with everything ready for white ball cricket and 2021 being a transformation year for cricket on the Island.

Manx Youth Games 2021 Update
Due to the current Covid lockdown young people have not had the opportunity to attend weekly training sessions. However, we are very hopeful lockdown and restrictions will be lifted in time and everyone can enjoy a great MYGs event on Saturday 15th May 2021. In order that we can plan the sports, sort T-shirts and ensure we all have a great day registration will be slightly different this year. Information regarding the Manx Youth Games and registration can be found on this link: msr.gov.im/sports-development-unit/manx-youth-games/.

Coach and Volunteer Workshops 2021
The IOMCA are investigating the feasibility of running a series of workshops for coaches and volunteers over the summer to assist their development. The available workshops are as follows:
CricStart Facilitator Training
A 3-hour workshop on becoming a facilitator for the new CricStart programme. This workshop is ideal for young (14+) and new people who want to assist their club in growing the number of young/new club members. An interactive workshop which will include theory and practical exercises on creating the best environment to help youngsters 3-9 years of age develop and stay in the game.
Coaching in Schools Training
A 3-hour workshop linking the ICC Criiio resources and best practices to deliver in schools (predominantly key stage 1 & 2). The school environment is any coaches best opportunity to deliver to larger groups and grow club numbers, ensuring a quality first experience to give the best chance to migrate to clubs. Looking at skills and games which will keep large groups active both indoors and outdoors. Ideal for people who are looking at delivering in schools for the IOMCA or as part of the longer term plans for club/school links.
Coaching Women and Girls Workshop
A 2-hour workshop introducing coaches to the different (if there are any) approaches in coaching women and girls. An interactive session where coaches will be asked to share their thoughts and will include players who will be able to give their views. Ideal for club coaches who have or are looking at starting women and girls teams or have female players in mixed teams.
Softball to Hardball Workshop
The challenge of the transition from softball to hardball cricket has been one faced by coaches for years, Is it an age or ability thing? What are the dangers of leaving it too late or moving players into it too early? Coaches will look at options to explore in ensuring a smooth transition to help players make the move with confidence. Ideal for coaches working with kwik cricketers and younger hardball age players.
Advanced Batting Workshop
A 3-hour workshop looking at options to assist more advanced batters. The session will focus on pre-delivery movements, power hitting, adapting and innovation along with some traditional techniques played against extreme pace and spin. Ideal for coaches working with older more experienced players.
Advanced Bowling Workshop
Can bowlers continue to do the same thing with the white ball as red? The modern batsman looks to score off every ball and has a 6 to 1 mentality. This 2-hour session looks at bowling successfully in T20 cricket for both seam and spin bowlers. Ideal for coaches working with older more experienced players.
The IOMCA can also visit clubs to deliver a bespoke workshop to suit the needs of your coaches and volunteers (dependent on numbers). If anyone is interested in any of the above workshops please email cdo@iomcricket.co.uk

The King William’s College Sunday winter programme including CricKids, CricSoft, CricFit and the women and girl’s soft ball both block 1 and 2 has unfortunately had to be cancelled. The decision to cancel the IOMCA winter programme comes after the Island’s circuit-break lockdown was extended and looks to be extended further.

Environmental Sustainability
Rachael Thomas, from Queen’s University Belfast, has carried out a tremendous amount of work for the ICC focusing on Environmental Sustainability in the context of European Cricket, looking at what we can all do to address the impact of Climate Change on our sport.
54% of ICC Europe Associate Member countries have experienced a temperature increase of over 2° Celsius since the year 2000. 25% have seen temperatures rise by 3°. 1.5°C is the limit that the UN, World Bank, European Commission and several other bodies are striving to limit temperature increases by to avoid major climate consequences in years to come.
Please find attached an Environmental Sustainability Resource Pack which is made up of two documents:
A Resource Pack Guide which provides an overview of the purpose of the resources and advice on how to use them. The Resource Pack itself which contains the 5 supporting resources outlined in the Guide. These can be used both digitally and printed out in poster format.
European Members observed an increase in average temperature of 90% since the year 2000 and this is only set to increase more rapidly, with serious consequences across the continent. From drought and flooding to soaring temperatures and air pollution, it’s time to take action to ensure a greener future for cricket.

Exciting New Female Cricket Opportunities for 2021
Building on the successes of the women and girls’ soft ball cricket festivals in 2019 and 2020 there is a number of new initiatives planned for 2021 as well as the traditional festivals which form part of the new Women and Girls’ Cricket Pathway..
Soft Ball Cricket Festivals
Pairs cricket, played on a smaller field and due to the softer ball no protective equipment is needed. Playing time at festivals is usually about two to four hours. It’s a game for absolutely everybody, no matter the experience, skill level, fitness, or age. Festivals will continue to be IOMCA run and hosted in clubs. Any age is welcome and festivals are open to individuals or club sides. People can form their own team of 8 players, join a local team or sign up individually and be allocated to a team on the day. Not available to IOMCA Senior Squad players.
Soft Ball Cricket Leagues (new for 2021)
16 overs 8-a-side pairs game played with larger boundaries with two fixtures played at a venue. The games will be umpired by the host club, scored and points recorded on Play Cricket. League fixtures will be club run, for age 11+ and open to club sides and anyone who would like to form a team of 8. Clubs and teams enter by emailing communitycoach@iomcricket.co.uk before March 31st.
Soft Ball Cricket Cup (new for 2021)
8 - a-side knock out cup pairs format run by the IOMCA at one central venue.
Super Series
The Super Series format will involve cricket ball T20 matches. Players will be split into teams depending on numbers beforehand and matches played in a festival format. These festivals will be a first introduction to the traditional ‘hardball’ cricket through gameplay. Transition sessions will be held across the island to help those female players with limited experience of hardball cricket and would like to move from soft ball to cricket ball. Super series festivals will be hosted at different club grounds with teams selected and run by the IOMCA. Players will be females aged 12 and above training in IOMCA squads or invited through attending transition sessions.
Female Cricket Bank Holiday Week End
To launch all the women and girls’ programmes there will be a female cricket bank holiday weekend (May Bank Holiday 1st, 2nd and 3rd May).

Lockdown Update 2021
Further to the announcement on Tuesday 2nd March 2021 by the Chief Minister all IOMCA activity is currently suspended. This suspension extends to all club training, squad training, school activity, Manx Youth Games and any associated cricket activity organised by the IOMCA. The situation will be monitored closely and further information will be issued when the position becomes clearer. However, once we can resume cricket activity we will look to start immediately in clubs, schools and squad activity
The break will hopefully not effect any match play at club level and all the club fixtures are now online iomcacomps.play-cricket.com. There is a lot planned for 2021 for male, female and junior cricket so keep an eye out for further updates.

Opening Up Cricket Deliver Webinar on Positive Routines
On Saturday 13th February all squad members male and female, U13 to National Team were invited to attend a webinar on positive routines for cricket hosted by Mark Boyns from Opening Up Cricket. There was a good turn out from the IOMCA squads and the webinar topics ranged from mindfulness for cricket, completing gratitude journals, breathing management, sleep and meditation. It was an excellent webinar where players and coaches learnt a lot which we will build on over the winter. Huge thanks to Opening Up Cricket! The Opening Up Cricket website can be found at openingupcricket.com

Cricket Recognised in IOM Sport Awards
Cricket has been recognised in various formats in the 2020 IOM Sport awards. Janelle Clarke has been shortlisted for the Sports Administrator of the Year and the Isle of Man Under 15 side for the Team of the Year. Both are worthy of their shortlisting for their efforts off and on the field and will hopefully go on to receive the awards outright.
Lucy Barnett and Jacob Butler were unfortunate not to be shortlisted as both had an outstanding season in 2020, Jacob being the 8th youngest player to play international T20 cricket and Lucy being selected to represent Derbyshire in the County competitions which she was unfortunately unable to fulfil any appearances due to Covid.

Umpiring Development
‘Following discussions between the Isle of Man Cricket Association (IOMCA) and the Isle of Man Association of Cricket Officials (IOMACO), the IOMACO has agreed to disband as a separate organisation and see the recruitment and development of umpires become part of the IOMCA.
This move will bring all aspects of developing and organising cricket on the Isle of Man under one entity, the IOMCA.
Given the growth in the numbers playing cricket at all levels in the Island, it was agreed by both parties that the combining responsibilities for playing and officiating under the IOMCA would allow for the development of current and future umpires.’
The IOMCA would like to thank all current and previous committee members for their efforts with the IOMACO, a particular mention to David Kenworthy for his efforts on education and scheduling umpires, and look forward to using their knowledge and expertise in the future.
Further details on how to become involved and up-skill as an umpire will follow soon.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today announced the qualification pathway for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia which is set to take place in October and November 2022.
The 15 spots in Australia will be decided through a four-step qualifying process which starts in April 2021. 11 regional qualification tournaments across five regions have been rescheduled to 2021, due to COVID-19 and will now feed into the 2022 Australia event.
With the return of cricket in early 2021, we will see 86 different teams with the opportunity to fill the 15 World Cup spots – with hosts Australia already securing one – over a 13-month qualification campaign. For the first time ever Hungary, Romania and Serbia will be competing for Men’s T20 World Cup qualification and Finland will play host to an ICC event for the very first time. In a festival of cricket it will also be the first time that Japan will host a Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, on the back of the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier they will host two weeks before.
At regional level there will be 67 Associate Members taking part. Due to the depth of strength within Africa and Europe, both regions have sub regional qualifiers feeding into a final qualifier for the region. Africa, Americas, EAP and Europe will have one top tier regional qualifier and Asia will have A and B to determine which teams will progress into the two eight-team global qualifiers.
The 16 available spots in the Global Qualifiers will be filled by one team each from the Africa and EAP Qualifier respectively. They will be joined by two teams each from the Americas and Europe qualifiers. Finally, Asia which has a Qualifier A and B will see one team from each event make up the eight spots from regional qualification.
The remaining eight spots will go to the four bottom teams from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and together with Nepal, Singapore, UAE and Zimbabwe which have gained direct entry based on their MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.
Four teams from the two global qualifiers will join hosts Australia and the 11 automatic qualifiers from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 to make up the 16-team Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
In the lead up to the Australia event there will be 225 Men’s T20 Internationals scheduled to be played across 13 months, giving every team an opportunity to climb the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.
ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley said: “We are delighted to announce qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. The pathway which culminates in the eighth Men’s T20 World Cup which will be held in Australia, sees the likes of Hungary, Romania and Serbia competing for the first time in an ICC event of this format, highlighting the increased competitiveness within Associate Members. In addition, a remarkable 225 Men’s T20 Internationals are scheduled to be played providing a substantial number of playing opportunities to all Members.”
The 16 teams that had originally qualified for the 2020 Australia event will now play in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in India. The participating teams for that event are Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
All events are subject to COVID-19 arrangements if required at that time.

Academy and EPP Trial New Practice Resources
The Academy and EPP players had their first opportunity last Friday morning 27th November to test their skills on the new bowling machines from Bola. The delivery of four new professional machines, a fielding machine and a Merlyn spin machine will ensure players have the opportunity to train against anything they could face on or off island.
The approach for all high performance squads this year is to cope with extremes so batsmen from the National Team, Academy and EPP will be facing speeds between 90mph and 70mph in all sessions and real gripping turn. There will be challenging months ahead however, we are confident that we will see huge improvements over the next six months to assist our aim of producing high quality players to climb the ICC world rankings.

The league winners were presented to Phil Richardson from Cronkbourne CC for the Forrester, Josh Mills from Peel and St Johns CC for the Cain, Ollie Webster from Peel and St Johns CC for the Premiership and Mark Williams from Castletown CC for Division one. Clare Williams-Stewart Chair of the junior committee then presented the U11 and U13 league winners to Cronkbourne CC and the U15 league winners was presented by Jaco Jansen Chief Executive Officer of Artisan Real Estate sponsor of the U15 league to Ramsey CC.
The second half of the event saw the presentation of the new volunteer awards introduced by Mike Haywood Chairman of the IOMCA and presented by Barry Smith President of the IOMCA. The IOMCA wanted to say thank you to the many volunteers on the Isle of Man who are such an important part of the clubs, teams or leagues across the island. The awards are aimed at recognising volunteers who give so much of their time to supporting cricket at recreational level. The IOMCA volunteer awards were chosen by an independent panel. The first category was Young Volunteer of the Year. The nominations were Sam Barnett - Finch Hill CC, Spencer Clarke - Finch Hill CC, Carl Hartmann - Crosby CC, Caitlin Henery - Ramsey CC, Josh Kewley - Finch Hill CC, Bliss Murtagh - Cronkbourne CC and IOMCA, Tom Ward - Ramsey CC and Nathan Williams - IOMCA. The winner was Carl Hartmann from Crosby CC.
Carl is a vital junior member of Crosby Cricket Club assisting the Committee in various aspects and he plays an integral role in the transition from junior to senior league cricket in the club. This year, as Carl moved to U16 with no weekly junior cricket, Carl did all the pre-season mowing of the field in preparation for the season during Covid and the majority thereafter once the season got underway. He assisted in the pitch marking and field set up for home games he played in and various junior matches he attended. Carl also volunteered for all club fund raisers, E2E marshalling, bag packing and assisting with the club quiz doing the raffle. He has also assisted coaches for the last 3 years at the Manx Youth Games and managed the majority of the club iPad’s for match set up, scoring and submission of results
The second award was the Club Volunteer of the Year. The nominations were Brendan Bennett- Peel & St Johns CC. Janelle Clarke - Finch Hill CC, Tom Moffatt - Ramsey CC, Adam Page - Ramsey CC, Tom Reader - Ramsey CC, Fiona Roome - Castletown CC and Claude Spencer - Cronkbourne CC. The winner was Janelle Clarke - Finch Hill CC.
If ever a person deserved an award for their efforts as a volunteer working tirelessly behind the scenes of a Manx cricket club it is Janelle. She has three children all playing for our different teams and supports them to the maximum (naturally), helps organise our junior section and Manx Youth Games, assists the senior captains with team selection and player availability, liaises with the IOMCA with regard to fixtures, coordinates with our groundsman regarding pitch preparation, scores most of the games she watches (including for the IOM Senior XI in Guernsey), sits on our committee as club welfare officer, participates in the ladies cricket events, is webmaster for our Play Cricket page and club website, and is basically the oil that keeps Finch Hill CC wheels turning. Sadly this season we haven’t been treated to her excellent cricket teas on Saturdays but we live in hope for next year.
The next award was Services to Cricket and the nominations were - Joe Arnold - Ramsey CC, Jenny Barnett - Finch Hill CC, Kathryn Clough - Cronkbourne CC, Martyn Howard - Ramsey CC, David Kenworthy - Castletown CC & IOM Umpires Association, Dave Picken - Crosby CC, Mark Williams - Castletown CC. The winner was Mark Williams - Castletown CC.
Mark was nominated by a number of individuals from Castletown CC who wished to express their thanks to Mark Williams for being a mentor and role model to their children over the last few seasons. They owe an enormous debt of thanks and gratitude to him and would like to nominate him for his role as an outstanding servant to Castletown CC over the years.
The final award was the Lifetime Services to Cricket and the nominations were - Neill Angus - Castletown & IOMCA, Roy Corlett - Finch Hill CC, Peter Crompton - Cronkbourne CC & IOMCA, Craig Hartmann - Crosby CC, Maurice Trace - IOMCA and Rob Webber - Ramsey CC. The winner was Neill Angus - Castletown CC & IOMCA.
Neill was a player for Castletown CC and he joined the club when they had only one senior team and no junior section. He was instrumental in the growth of Castletown CC to the club they are today with two teams on a Saturday and one each in the Forrester and Cain and six junior teams. He was also treasurer of Castletown CC for a number of years. Neill was Chairperson of the IOMCA for seven years and treasurer before that. He was hugely committed to his role as Chairperson even after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. He was instrumental in the Isle of Man joining the ICC and the huge benefits that has brought to the island cricket community. Committed to the development of cricket on the island for a huge number of years at club and association level. His vision has always been to see the growth of Castletown and Isle of Man cricket as a whole.

Isle of Man Women's Open Trial
This year the Isle of Man Cricket Association will be holding an open trial on the 1st November at the National Sports Centre to form the first Isle of Man Cricket Women’s Senior Squad. Once selected the newly formed senior squad will train once a week before and after Christmas and will eventually form the first Isle of Man Women’s National Team with the chance to represent the Isle of Man on the world stage in ICC events.
Women and girl's cricket has grown significantly over the last two years with over 150 new players trying the game through the women and girl's soft ball festivals and more girls are playing the traditional junior and senior league cricket alongside their male counterparts. Last year saw the initiation of the first IOMCA U15 girl's development squad train and play and with the increased numbers playing the game this year the squad will be separated to form an U13 and senior squad.
The trial will be open to any female on the Isle of Man school Year 9 and above. If any interested individuals could email communitycoach@iomcricket.co.uk by Friday 16th October with confirmation they would like to attend, their preferred time to trial morning, afternoon or evening and their details e.g. date of birth, contact number and email address.

Ollie Webster Retires from International Cricket
Ollie Webster competed in the first Isle of Man side to play in the ICC European Division Two in Belgium in 2005 and has been a regular feature of the Isle of Man representative sides ever since. Playing in the ICC European Division Three, Two and One and T20 World Cup Europe Qualifiers. The standout being part of the victorious side that won Division Two in 2012 in Corfu. He also most recently played in the first official Isle of Man T20 international on the 21st August against Guernsey.
Always with a smile on his face and a cheeky word Ollie has been an important part of the Isle of Man National Team over the last fifteen years. The requirements to compete on the international stage and the demands of training now being placed on players has meant with Ollie having other commitments and a young family has led to him gracefully calling it time.
Everyone from Isle of Man Cricket wishes him well for the future.

IOMCA Report from Guernsey
The Isle of Man Cricket Association last week took advantage of the air bridge with Guernsey to send a squad of over fifty players to Guernsey for National Team, U17, U15 and U13 matches.
The National Team’s programme included a World T20 ranking international game and two friendly international T20s and although they lost all three, a number of promising juniors – Carl Hartmann, Jacob Butler and Ed Walker - made their senior team debuts. Jacob Butler being the eighth youngest player ever to play T20 international cricket aged 15 years and 275 days.
After an eight wicket defeat in Friday night’s T20 game, notable for an excellent 43 by Adam McAuley, the Isle of Man side came back strongly in Saturday’s opening T20, narrowly losing by 8 runs with McAuley (44), Nathan Knights (38) and George Burrows (31 not out) all making significant contributions. Chris Langford and Jacob Butler each picking up two wickets.
However, a strong Guernsey side again showed their ability with a 9 wicket win in the last of the three games although Matt Ansell provided some resistance with a rapid 30 from 24 balls.
The U17s were unable to play their fifty over match due to a waterlogged pitch and although they lost both of their T20 games, the first game was a close encounter with Carl Hartmann top scoring with 45 off 33 balls and two wickets for Jacob Butler and Fraser Clark in a narrow 7 run loss. In the second, Josh Clough hit 35 and there were two wickets each for Dollin Jansen and Olly Wait although Guernsey won by 28 runs.
The Isle of Man’s U15 side enjoyed a successful tour with three wins out of three. They opened up with a win in Thursday’s forty-over match at King George Playing Fields. After bowling Guernsey out for 146, with Cavan Burden and Fraser Clarke picking up two wickets each, a solid partnership between Luke Ward (35) and wicket keeper Henry Telford (22) steadied the ship after two early wickets. Dollin Jansen then clinched victory with a well-paced half century.
The IOM U15s finished with three wins out of three with victory in both of Saturday’s T20 matches at College Fields. In the first game, the Isle of Man scored 128 for 6 with Dollin Jansen top scoring with 63. The IOM then restricted Guernsey to 119 with Fraser Clarke 3 for 25 the pick of a strong bowling performance.
In the second T20 game the IOM bowled first and although Guernsey made a strong start, they eventually finished with 124 for the loss of only two wickets with accurate bowling from Dollin Jansen and JJ Griffin restricting the Guernsey openers in the latter stages. The Isle of Man were quick out of the blocks in their reply with Dollin Jansen setting the tone with 19 off the opening over, ably supported by Luke Ward. Jansen completed his third fifty of the tour, eventually finishing 73 not out including an opening partnership of 119 with Luke Ward (33).
The U13 side enjoyed two T20 wins on their opening day of the festival. In the first game they bowled Guernsey out for 101 with Ollie Quinn taking 3 wickets. In reply, the IOM eclipsed the Guernsey score for the loss of 4 wickets with Cameron Roome top scoring with 50, well supported by Thomas Ackron (24).
In the second game the IOM batted first making 137 for 3 with Lucy Barnett scoring 62 and supported by Tom Ward (22) and Ben Leinwand (20) The IOM then restricted Guernsey to 111 for 9 with Will Wiseman taking 4 wickets including a hat trick.
On the second day of their tour honours were shared between the Isle of Man and Guernsey. The first match saw the IOM bowl Guernsey out for 64 in a reduced 15 over match with Oli Poole-Wilson taking 2 for 15 and Joel Williams 2 for 5. Openers Jared Shepherd (30 not out) and Thomas Ackron (25 not out) passed the Guernsey score in 7 overs for a 10 wicket win.
In the final game of the U13 tour, the IOM scored 109 for 8 in a reduced 18 overs match. Lucy Barnett top scored again with 51 but Guernsey came back strongly with a 4th wicket partnership of 75 to win the game with 4 balls to go.
A really enjoyable week of cricket played in a wonderful location. There were some excellent team and individual performance and every player was a credit to the Isle of Man. A huge thanks to Guernsey Cricket and the catering, ground staff, umpires and mini bus drivers, St Pierre Park for providing such superb facilities, Air Aurigny for flying us there and back and everyone who helped us get to Guernsey. It was a really brilliant experience!

Another Great Turnout for the IOMCA Quiz
The IOMCA quiz took place on Sunday 9th August at Cronkbourne Cricket Club. Firstly the stalls and activities started up at 4pm which was then followed by a great selection of hot food. The excellent weather meant that the quiz could be inside and outside and all the kids could continue their many games of cricket on the Cronkbourne outfield. The raffle prizes were drawn at intervals during the quiz.
Huge thanks to the fundraising committee for organising the event, the Gunnions for their delicious food, Cronkbourne for hosting, the parents and players who ran the stalls and activities, all those people and companies who donated prizes and bought raffle tickets, quiz master Dave and everyone who supported the event. It was great to see the whole cricketing family out in force to support the players going to Guernsey.

The Knox Group Supporting Cricket at all Levels on the Isle of Man
The upcoming trip to Guernsey for the Development of Excellence and High Performance squads has brought lots of attention to cricket from local companies.
The Knox Group have come forward to support not just the Guernsey event but have also agreed to sponsor all local senior leagues for the 2020 season.
The week has matches with our Guernsey counterparts in an inter-island cricket festival that will include matches for the Under 13, 15, 17 squads as well as T20 international matches for the National Team. Schedules see the Under 13 and 17 squads fly out on the 17th playing in a combination of T20 and 50 over matches over the course of Tuesday and return on Thursday. The return leg to Guernsey sees the plane pick up the Under 15 and National squads who then play a combination of 45 over matches and T20s with world ranking points at stake.
Mike Haywood, IOMCA Chairman said “organising a replacement event for all the squads at relatively short notice has been no easy task. The financial support that the Knox Group of companies has pledged means we can quickly bring together plans for the tour and helped our squads keep their focus on training so that they can fulfil the nation’s expectations. I am also pleased to announce that the Knox Group of companies will be the sponsors for all senior leagues in 2020.”
Tim Eve, Deputy Chairman Knox Group of companies commented, “It is a privilege to be able to offer support to enable this tour to take place. Squad members have put in significant effort and commitment throughout the winter months. The opportunity to play at the highest level and participate in a cricket festival is payback for their hard work. We are very much looking forward to continuing the relationship with the sponsorship of the senior leagues over the course of 2020

Record Breaking Festival
On Sunday 26th July the Ramsey Cricket Club women and girl's festival broke the previous record of six teams at Finch Hill CC in 2019. There were four pitches with 8 teams and over 80 players from Ramsey CC, Ramsey Hockey Club, Cronkbourne CC, Finch Hill CC and Castletown CC taking part over the afternoon. A huge thanks to Ramsey CC for doing such a brilliant job organising and running the festival and baking such delicious cakes to raise money for the IOMCA Guernsey trip.
Fundraising Events for your Diaries
Whilst company sponsorship and donations have been coming in thick and fast the intention was always to arrange events where players, parents and families could get involved.
The fundraising and sponsorship group have been hard at work organising two significant events which include a sponsored walk and a quiz night.
The IOMCA would like to say a big thank you to Quinn Legal for their support on the sponsored walk which will go towards refreshments and transport back to Douglas for those taking part.
The walk will see players and families looking to cover the distance to Guernsey and back on foot, cycle and in a wheelchair with 50% of the proceeds of the walk being donated to Rebecca House. The walk starts at the NSC Douglas at 14:00 Sunday 2nd August and finishes in St Johns with transport back provided for those who require it. Download the document below for more details and a sponsorship form.

IOMCA Excellence Squads Head to Guernsey
The Isle of Man development and high performance squads have arranged to take advantage of the travel bubble created with Guernsey and will be playing their counterparts in a festival which includes matches for the Under 13, 15, 17 squads and T20 international matches for the senior team.
To enable this to happen planes have been chartered outside of the scheduled flights as the demand to play and support from squads and families sees over 140 people travelling with the teams.
Schedules see the Under 13 and 17 squads fly out Monday playing in a combination of T20 and 50 over matches over Tuesday and return Thursday. The return leg to Guernsey sees the plane pick up the Under 15 and National team players who then play a combination of 45 over matches and T20i's with world ranking points at stake.
Mark Latter, Guernsey Cricket CEO said, “It is great to see so many coming down for the trip and for the boost this will give the local hospitality industry. All at Guernsey Cricket look forward to welcoming Greig Wright and his Manx group to our wonderful island”.
In response Greig Wright added "The opportunity created by the air bridge was one we couldn’t pass up. With the cricket missed this year at overseas festivals and World cup qualifiers all players and parents were keen to take the opportunity to play in Guernsey. The work from people in both countries has made this a relatively easy process to put together, we are just looking forward to playing some good cricket now. A huge thanks go to Mann Link travel, Air Aurigny, St Pierre Park Hotel for their support with flights and accommodation and to Callin wild for their continued sponsorship of the Excellence programmes which helps make things like this achievable."
Whilst the schedule is confirmed along with flights and accommodation a group of parents have put together a fundraising and sponsorship group to raise monies to assist players with flight and hotel costs. If you would like more information on how you can get involved with this or sponsoring one of many cricket initiatives on the island please get in contact.

New Executive Committee Members
It is with great pleasure the IOMCA announce Mike Haywood as the new IOMCA Chairman, Chris Cunningham as the Secretary and Clare Williams-Stewart as the Junior Committee Chairperson. The IOMCA would like to thank Neill Angus, Andy Coulson and Karen Riordan for the last ten years and more which has been instrumental in the growth of cricket on the Isle of Man.
Below is a little history to Mike, Chris and Clare's involvement in cricket on the Isle of Man.
Mike Haywood -
Mike started playing cricket on the Isle of Man in the early 1980’s and has played with Ronaldsway, Malew and Castletown. He has coached Castletown U11, U13 and U15 teams over the last five years and his wife and daughter play for the Castletown women and girl’s team and son has played for various Castletown sides. He is currently on the Castletown committee and has coached the IOMCA U13, U15 and girl’s development squad over the last year.
Clare Williams-Stewart -
"Hi, I am Clare, I have two boys who play with Castletown Cricket Club, for which I am now the Welfare Officer, having become more involved as my boys progressed through the club. Having been persuaded to join the fun of the Women’s and Girl’s festivals, I’ve since become part of the new lady’s team for the club as well. I’ve come a long way from not knowing cricket at all!
I’ve been hugely impressed by the effort, benefit and opportunity that the club and the Association have brought to the youth side and I see how important this is to communities and our Island. When the role of Junior Chair arose, I put myself forward to represent the committee, working with the IOMCA to help contribute to the success of cricket on the island."
Chris Cunningham -
Started playing for Vagabonds cricket club back in 2007. Moved to Union Mills after Vagabonds left and I have been with them every since. Currently Vice Captain but do all the social media and general administration duties. Occasionally I will umpire as well.

Clubs Return to Training
Clubs across the Isle of Man have been returning to training since Thursday 11th June. Crosby juniors and seniors have been training since last Thursday 11th with Cronkbourne seniors also training Thursday 11th with their first junior session Tuesday 16th. The Castletown U13s and women and girls trained alongside each other on Tuesday 16th. All clubs have had positive feedback and good turnouts. If anyone would like information about any of the club's training please email cdo@iomcricket.co.uk.
Cricket is Very Close!
All forms of cricket are extremely close to returning on the Isle of Man. Clubs are just required to submit an updated risk assessment to reflect the new Isle of Man Sport guidelines and ICC protocols with increased emphasis on cleaning and hygiene. Clubs will also be contacting their members to ascertain the number of junior, senior and women's teams they will be entering in the relevant junior and senior leagues and women and girl's festivals this season. Once these have been submitted the IOMCA will be able to organise junior and senior league fixtures as well as dates for women and girl's festivals. Anyone who is not part of a club and would like to play cricket this season please email cdo@iomcricket.co.uk and we can put you in contact with your local club. There is a form of cricket on the Isle of Man for everyone.
Crosby will be playing an intra club fixture on Saturday 20th June with 25 players as they have already submitted their club risk assessment and have contacted those members who are eligible for senior cricket.

IOMCA Squads Return to Training
All the IOMCA squads returned to training this week with the U13s and U17s unfortunately delayed a day due to the weather. The players came back with lots of enthusiasm and application and followed the guidelines sensibly and maturely. The last squad to return was the U17s who resumed their preparations for the U19 World Cup qualifiers which is now scheduled for early 2021.
Cricket Returning on the Isle of Man
The National Team and Emerging Players Programme have returned to training this week at King William's College to run through a couple of sessions and to observe how IOMCA plans work to ensure training was safe and within the guidelines. Both groups had a very productive session working on their skills in a safe and organised but rewarding and fun environment. It was great to see the players of all ages return with the continued desire to improve their own game and following the guidelines in a mature manner. All the IOMCA squads will be returning to training next week with clubs also working hard to return soon once they feel they have everything in place.
IOMCA Return to Cricket Update
After looking at the updates from the Chief Minister's statement on Covid-19 21st May 2020 it looks like we are not far from a return to cricket in some form which is great news.
At present we would urge the cricket community to wait for further clarification on what the full requirements are before looking to start playing/ training on your club grounds.
Isle of Man Sport have issued 'Guidance for Sports and Recreation Activities' which we are currently looking at and have asked for clarity on certain areas before we look at returning. We need to ensure we are returning in compliance with all guidelines/restrictions to satisfy Government and public concerns.
We are aware of other sports announcements yesterday which state an immediate return with very few restrictions. However, the guidance for these sports are by UK governing bodies and may not satisfy Isle of Man Sport's requirements.

We are working hard for a return to cricket in some guise soon and will update everyone once we have further information from Isle of Man Sport.
IOMCA Teams Up With Opening Up Cricket
The IOMCA has joined forces with Opening Up Cricket who promote positive mental health to clubs, players, parents and coaches. The timing of this announcement couldn't be at a more apt time with this week being mental health awareness week in the UK and the challenges everyone is facing with the lockdown. The IOMCA have joined with Opening Up Cricket to offer a series of resources to promote mental wellbeing through cricket at all levels.
Cricket as a sport can provide greater mental challenges than physical which can be felt by players, family members, clubs and coaches regardless of level therefore the IOMCA is keen to ensure any support available is open to all.
Planning has commenced with Opening Up Cricket in how best to deliver these opportunities to cricketers at all levels on the Isle of Man and at present this looks like the following:
This is a great opportunity to help players and clubs develop and more importantly ensure players and the cricket community enjoy and understand the game and the challenges it may bring and provide them with the tools to do this.

- Three sessions delivered by Opening Up Cricket to high performance squads, junior squads, parents, club members and welfare officers to cover topics relevant to their particular area.
- Prepare a mental health plan to be used across all of the cricket community.
- Using feedback from these sessions and Opening Up Cricket's experience to produce an online portal to assist with further learning.

IOMCA Return to Cricket Proposal
The IOMCA have submitted a Return to Cricket Proposal with relevant risk assessments which have been put forward to the Isle of Man Government and relevant parties. The IOMCA has outlined a four phased return to play within their Return to Cricket Proposal which aligns with the recent Isle of Man Government's Medium-Term Response to Covid-19 - Stay Safe guidelines. Club representatives have been emailed the Return to Cricket Proposal to allow them to prepare for cricket recommencing as outlined in the proposal. However, it is completely at the discretion of the individual and club whether they wish to take part in the relevant phase of the Isle of Man Return to Cricket proposal. The IOMCA will work with clubs to reopen their outdoor facilities to meet the specified requirements outlined in each phase.
At present current measures are being relaxed with other sports returning to action with legislative frameworks being amended to allow this to happen. Our proposal is 100% based around a safe return to cricket with a staged and monitored approach that is controlled and robust. This would still allow players to get back playing the game they love improving their skills and maintaining their physical and mental health but in a safe and organised environment.
Please see below the IOMCA's Return to Cricket Proposal. We look forward to engaging with the Government soon -

Isle of Man Sport Club Support Package
IOM Sport have also issued the following for clubs across the Isle of Man:
1. Emergency Aid – If a Governing Body feels their sport is under threat of extinction due to funding issues, or if there is a serious threat to the existence of clubs.
2. ‘Get back into Sport’ initiatives – Isle of Man Sport would consider offering direct resources to ‘kick start’ participation in sport, for those sports wanting to re-engage with members during the long period of sporting inactivity the island is currently facing.
If any cricket club feels they are either under threat due to the current situation or have ideas on the ‘Get back to Sport’ initiatives Greig Wright will be happy to forward your concerns or ideas to Isle of Man Sport. U19 World Cup Qualifiers Postponed
It is with regret that the ICC, in agreement and with the support of hosts Denmark, have collectively been forced to make the unfortunate decision to postpone the ICC Men’s U19 CWC Europe Division 2 event due to be held in July 2020, as a result of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
International borders remain closed across a number of competing countries, including in Denmark, and there remains a high level of uncertainty as to when competitive international cricket can be played safely. Furthermore, local operating restrictions imposed by the Danish government would have prevented the event from running in a feasible manner.
The intention is to reschedule the event for sometime between April and June in 2021 to allow the event to feed in to the Europe Division 1 event which will likely take place in July 2021. Denmark at this point remain as hosts.. This will also require consultation with each of the countries involved over the coming months to find a suitable timeframe that avoids any clashes with school exams. Amendments to age restrictions have been made to allow those players who are currently U17 to still be eligible in 2021.

MCC Visit to the Island Postponed
The MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) have written to the Isle of Man Cricket Association to advise that, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the MCC's visit to the Isle of Man, planned for June this year, has been postponed. Whilst it is hoped that the visit can be rearranged for later in the year, this cannot be guaranteed..
Update on the Suspension of Cricket Activities on the Isle of Man
Cricket activities on the Isle of Man to remain suspended until further notice.
The easing of the restriction of non-essential travel and the return to work for certain professions is a small step forward in the fight against Coronavirus. Everyone in our Cricket community is itching to return to playing the game that we all love, but the latest easing of some restrictions is not a green light to do so. The directive from Government remains ’Stay home. Stay safe.’ and the cricket community is keen to support this message.
The Isle of Man Cricket Association (IOMCA) wishes to remind all players, coaches, parents and children, that, for the time being, it is NOT advised for players to be integrating around their clubs as this is still classed as a social gathering. This remains the case even if participants are engaged in social distancing.
It is strongly recommended that clubs do not look to open up their nets, use the squares/artificial tracks for bowling practice or encourage the use of outfields for fielding practices as it is impossible to control who uses them at what time. This has the potential to create problems so we would urge that these areas are not made available to anyone. The IOMCA is constantly updating the websites and social media with cricket drills, which can be performed at home. https://www.iomcricket.co.uk/skills--drills.html
The IOMCA can assure you all that we are looking at every opportunity to ensure that our sport can return as soon as we are permitted to do so. The IOMCA looks to continue to support the growth in popularity of Cricket on the Island, which we have experienced over the past few years. It is, however, essential that this is done in a manner, which is safe for all.

There will also be strength and conditioning videos uploaded onto the player pathway fitness for cricket section to help players maintain their fitness at home.

Isle of Man Cricket Association Statement
Suspension of Cricket Activities due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The Chief Minister of the Isle of Man Government, yesterday (Friday) advised sporting organisations on the Isle of Man to reconsider their positions on holding events concerned with their sports. The Executive Committee of the Isle of Man Cricket Association discussed yesterday evening how we should proceed in the coming days. It was decided, that, with much sadness, all cricket activities on the Isle of Man will be suspended with immediate effect from today (Saturday March 21st, 2020) for a period of 30 days. This suspension extends to all National Squad training, pre-season Senior Player nets and any associated cricket activity organised by the Isle of Man Cricket Association.
The situation will be reviewed after 30 days (Monday April 20th, 2020), when hopefully the advice from the Isle of Man Government will allow normal activity to resume.
It is very important that Isle of Man Cricket plays its part to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to protect everyone in the sport, be it players, coaches, supporters, their families and the rest of the Isle of Man population.
I know that many of the players and coaches have worked incredibly hard and invested a lot of emotional effort for a long period of time. The Association thanks everyone for their hard work.
We will try to keep everyone updated in the best way that the Association can with regard to future plans.
Thank you for your attention and patience in these difficult times.

Those people, who are concerned with the current position and who do not wish to attend planned meetings or events are welcome to make that decision. Please DO communicate that you will not be attending.

Lucy Barnett Representing the Isle of Man and Derbyshire
Congratulations to Lucy Barnett, who whilst representing the Isle of Man EPP and U13s in 2020, will also have the opportunity to showcase her skills for the Derbyshire women and girl's squads. Lucy will continue with her EPP and Isle of Man U13 training and will join up with the Derbyshire girl's training later in the winter. She will then represent the Isle of Man and Derbyshire women and girl squads over the summer. This is just reward for her hard work and runs over the last few years.
Sporting Club Isle of Man
The recent launch of ‘Sporting Club IOM’ has no impact on cricket as a sport or on any cricketer or groups of players who wish to look at an alternative pathway under the Isle of Man name. The IOMCA, as the body linking with the ICC, provide all opportunities to play recognised representative cricket for the Isle of Man.
Sporting Club IOM, whilst promoting they have been 'established to support anyone in the local community with aspirations and dreams of playing within the top echelons of team sports’, have advised that this is only applicable to sports which either do not have that option available; or where the governing body feel that they need support in achieving regular off island competition. Currently this is Football and one other sport to be announced.
The IOMCA player pathway offers individuals of all ages opportunities to represent the Isle of Man on the world stage in ICC ranking competitions at certain ages. We are looking to expand these opportunities to women and girls and would like to confirm to players who wish to represent the Isle of Man that this is done through IOMCA player pathways.

Safeguarding Statement December 2019
After the recent report referring to a breach of safeguarding in cricket the Isle of Man Cricket Association would like to reassure all parents and players with the following:
The Isle of Man Cricket Association have proactively encouraged the growth and development of our sport. A large focus has been on juniors playing which has seen a large number of new players attending our clubs.
To ensure the safety of these new and all existing players we have been actively working with Isle of Man Sport and the Isle of Man Safeguarding Children's Board to create policies and procedures for our clubs to follow to ensure this happens.
From 2018 all clubs with recognised junior sections have appropriate personnel in place to ensure the safety of children in our clubs.
The IOMCA have released the following Safeguarding statement to ensure clubs, parents and children understand what the IOMCA is doing to keep cricket safe.
“The Isle of Man Cricket Association acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice and the Isle of Man Safeguarding Children's Board requirements’.
The IOMCA feel it appropriate to add that while we are saddened to read the report and our thoughts are with the victims, the named individual has not actively coached in cricket for over 8 years now.

Emerging Players Programme 2019/2020
Congratulations to Fraser Clarke who has gained a place on the Emerging Players Programme for 2019/2020. Ed Walker, Carl Hartmann, Jacob Butler, Luke Ward, Nathan Williams, Dollin Jansen, Joe Humphrey, Lucy Barnett and Tom Ward have also retained their places for 2019/2020. Preparation Starts for 2020
Squad selections and high performance squad fitness took place on Saturday 5th October in preparation for the 2020 season. The results will underpin the players individual programmes to assist them in achieving the required minimum standards for players who wish to access the high performance element of the player pathway. Players will be retested in 10 weeks before Christmas..
The expected standards are available to view in the fitness 4 cricket section in the player pathway area of the website.
Younger players will be informed early in the week to see if they were successful in achieving a place in the revamped age groups. The age group set up was altered to ensure high quality sides/players are training to represent the Isle of Man in their festivals and fixtures.

Participants were able to enter individually and be put in a team or enter as a team. Each of the players received a Cric Start bat and ball set as well as a hoodie or t shirt. Cricket Links with Isle of Man Creamery to Promote Nutrition and Hydration Week
The Isle of Man Cricket Association has joined forces with Isle of Man Creamery to give every squad player a free pint of milk as part of Nutrition and Hydration Week which is the 11th to 16th March 2019. Isle of Man Creamery will be at squad training at 2:30 between the U12s and the U13s training sessions at the NSC on the 16th March. Nutrition and Hydration week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally. The IOMCA has provided nutrition workshops in the past and continually encourages all players to have a healthy diet. Milk is an important part of a cricketer's diet as it builds healthy bones and teeth, serves as a source of energy, builds and repairs muscle tissue and maintains healthy red blood cells.
The IOMCA and Isle of Man Creamery are looking at the possibility of having all cricket teas for club and representative squads to be based solely on Manx produce in 2019.

Isle of Man Fast & Spin Bowling Clinics
The first of a series of fast and spin bowling clinics took place on Saturday 8th December at the NSC. Players were selected with a view to representing the national team in the future.
The bowlers were given the opportunity to have their actions filmed and then specific areas were reviewed. They were then given certain intervention drills and training methods to develop their particular areas of focus.
The first session was based around the fast bowlers looking at their bases and alignment and the spinners focusing on grips and spinning the ball big!
The fast bowling group were principally selected due to their physical attributes and in particular height with a view to finding a 6 foot plus 90mph bowler of the future.

Kit to Sri Lanka Update.
After an earlier appeal the clubs on the Isle of Man rallied round to donate kit which is being delivered by Rob Weight to promote cricket in Sri Lanka.
An appeal was made as follows:
Rob Weight is heading off to Sri Lanka in March next year with the Somerset over 50's. They are also looking at supporting the local communities and donating some equipment.
If you have any unwanted kit please get in contact with Rob and he will arrange collection.
Clubs came through and Rob has asked us to publish the following:
" A big thanks to everyone that donated their old kit, the package from the IOM has arrived in Sri Lanka and I will be in Colombo next week to hand it over to a local charity. The response from IOM was fantastic and with the equipment collected from the other Somerset players I'm sure many kids out there will be using the kit and most importantly playing cricket."
Cheers Rob.
Enjoy the trip Rob!

IOMCA Club Update.
The IOMCA have secured an increased scorecard grant due to the activity on the Island and as such have put together certain initiatives to benefit cricket and its growth.
The following initiatives are in place and may be something you as a club would like to discuss.
Schools coaching
The IOMCA have invested through MSR into an initiative which will look to give every child (primary school age) the opportunity to play cricket and hopefully then join one of our clubs.
During the Primary schools sport partnership phase (easter to TT) there will be 65 days coaching offered between schools where a specialist coach either Sally Green or George Burrows will go into primary schools and try to enthuse them into joining a club.
Outside of this we are also delivering in 2 or 3 schools per half term a 5 or 6 week programme which is targeted to reception and key stage 1 children with a view to develop their all round athleticism (physical literacy) and again see if we can get these children into clubs early. This will be using the CricKids initiative we have run for the last 3 years and all clubs are encouraged to sign up for this and become a host club. Training will be given to coaches or parents as to what to deliver at no cost and will hopefully bring a future generation of cricketers along.
Facilities
To enhance the playing experience at clubs all clubs will look to have minimum standard ground requirements.
These will be confirmed in due course after consultation but it is likely to be sight screens, electronic scoreboard and boundary rope for premier league clubs.
The IOMCA will support clubs in buying these and will speak to clubs individually to assess their requirements.
All purchases will have to be through Durrant cricket as they have agreed to become our equipment supplier and will offer special rates to the IOMCA on their products.
New activity initiatives
The IOMCA have allocated a sum of money which clubs can bid in to to cover the costs for NEW activities which may bring new players into clubs. Clubs can access between £200 and £1000 in supporting these initiatives.
Clubs will need to write an outline plan for these activities and at the end produce receipts etc to show the money has been purposefully spent along with numbers and details of the participants involved.
There will be annual priorities like Women and Girls, modified games etc.
Again more details will follow but please start to think how you can engage in this.
2018 will also see us starting to look at developing an indoor centre which can host all year round activity and cater for the growth we are seeing in our sport.
If you would like to discuss any of these initiatives further please contact me at IOMcricket@hotmail.com
Please share this info with your club members.

ICC Regulations on Cricket Helmets.
The ICC have released their regulations for the use of cricket helmets. These will be strictly monitored in ICC comps but should also be observed when purchasing kit for increased player safety. Released 2 years to the day after the tragic death of Phil Hughes it is an event nobody wants to see happen again.
Read below:
This note is to remind all Boards and their teams that from 1 January 2017, only helmets certified to BS7928:2013 shall be permitted to be worn by players when batting in international cricket matches. While it is not compulsory to wear a helmet at all times when batting, when a helmet is worn it must be certified to the new British Standard.
This decision was made by CEC in June this year, and the ICC Clothing & Equipment regulations have been updated to reflect this decision, with enforcement of the new helmet requirement commencing on 1 January 2017.
The issue will be policed in the same way as other clothing & equipment breaches, with the ICC Cricket Operations department being notified of potential breaches by match officials, with the video footage then being reviewed to confirm a breach before any notice is sent to the player’s Board.
A player continuing to wear non-compliant helmets after 1 January will be given two warnings (only one warning per match) before sanctions will apply.
The ICC and its Members have made this decision to ensure international cricketers are wearing the safest available helmets when playing international cricket, and Members have an important role to play in ensuring all their players are wearing British Standards compliant helmets.
To that end, a presentation has been put together to help educate Members and their players as to why the standard was revised, which makes of helmet are compliant, and what happens if a player continues to wear a non-compliant helmet. The link to the presentation is below:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!AiU9cezTDuMPiEgagD21sULleho9
It is strongly recommended that each Board identifies an internal process by which players can check whether their helmets are compliant or not, and that process be included as the last slide in the presentation.
In recent international matches, there have still been a number of players wearing non-compliant helmets when batting, so please discuss this with all players in your team as soon as practical. If the ICC can assist your Board in identifying particular players that have been wearing non-compliant helmets, please get in touch with Clive Hitchcock or myself.
The ICC does not want to have to apply sanctions for players wearing non-compliant helmets, so please work with your players and the ICC to ensure that the safest possible helmets are being worn prior to the introduction of these regulations on 1 January.

To that end, a presentation has been put together to help educate Members and their players as to why the standard was revised, which makes of helmet are compliant, and what happens if a player continues to wear a non-compliant helmet.
